Nevada, which became the 35th state in the Nation in 1864, is located in the western portion of the United States. While its capital city is Carson City, it is perhaps most well known for the infamous city of Las Vegas. It has been nicknamed the Silver State because of the number of large silver deposits located throughout the state.
In terms of size, Nevada ranks number seven in the nation and includes parts of the Mojave Desert and the Great Basin. Considered to be the most arid, or dry, state over 85% of the land is owned by the Federal government. 2. Nevada has a large ranching base. Both cattle and sheep are ranched throughout the state. Over 90% of the cropland found in Nevada is used to grow feed for the ranches mainly alfalfa and hay.
3. Nevada has no corporate income tax and no personal income tax.
4. Important industrial applications including printing, electric equipment and food processing take place throughout the state.
While Nevada is most well known for the bright lights of Las Vegas, its large agricultural base, mining activities and more have turned into one of the most successful states in the country.
