Have you ever considered beginning your own screen printing company? It is rather inexpensive to start a t-shirt printing company at home. I read about one guy who started a screen printing business with almost nothing. He used old wedding dress fabric for the screens and used wood to make his frames to get started. He printed and sold signs. He also began to print magnets, baseball hats and shirts. Eventually, he designed and built his own four colored printing press.
You could start your own screen printing company and it wouldn't be to difficult or expensive. For under $100 you could obtain the tools to screen print shirts. At the very least you would need to acquire a frame, photo emulsion, a cheap lamp, ink, a squeegee, masking tape and shirts. However, for another $100, you could acquire a single shirt printing press... or you could build your own.
It is always a good idea to improve your equipment as your business gets bigger. Printing each shirt only costs a couple of cents per shirt. To get started, you could purchase blank shirts from Michaels for a couple of dollars each. Some other options are to purchase shirts in quantity to save money, or you can buy box lots of shirts on eBay. Some places that you could run your company would be your garage or basement.
Many people design and print shirts to sell them on eBay to get themselves started. If that sounds like a decent plan for you, then I propose starting by going to eBay to find out what type of shirts people are selling and buying. Are they buying dog shirts, cat shirts, karate shirts, etc.? Create your own original artwork, print a few of shirts, and list them on eBay. You can sell these shirts on eBay for $10-$15, while it will only cost you a few bucks per shirt... not to mention that printing them will only cost a couple cents each.
Local rock bands, sports teams and family reunions offer some other opportunities for your screen printing business. If anybody you know needs shirts printed, offer your services for a little profit. Remember that it's crucial that you do a good quality job. After you've done a small number of jobs, you will almost certainly begin getting word of mouth referrals. Another idea to drive business would be to get business cards printed up and posting them on local bulletin boards to advertise your custom printed shirts.
