Because acne is such a common problem that affects many people worldwide there are a huge number of myths about it. You may be surprised that some of the things you thought were facts about acne are actually not true! In this article I'll go through some of the more common acne myths so you have a better idea of what really works for acne.
One of the myths you are bound to have heard at some point is that people who eat lots of chocolate have worse acne. This really isn't true and isn't backed up by scientific evidence.
However there is some evidence that certain diets can affect acne although they probably aren't the cause of it. Eating a healthy diet is never a bad idea so you should try to do so for your general health. It may help your acne or it may not but it definitely won't hurt.
Some people also think that if you go out and get a good tan it will help acne. This one is understandable because if you get a tan the acne is less likely to show up. However the problem is that you aren't solving the problem you are just hiding it. Tanning also has its own health risks so it isn't advisable.
There is also the chance of getting other skin problems such as skin cancer if you spend too long lying on the sun so it is best not to do it. Definitely don't do it as an acne cure because it won't work and could make the problems worse.
Acne is a difficult problem to deal with and it is made a lot harder by the fact that so many different people have different opinions about how to deal with it. That is why you should always visit your dermatologist who'll be able to advise you on the best way to get rid of your acne in a scientifically proven way. Don't listen to all the tales about how to get rid of acne - only listen to medical advice!
