Also try to find a space that is reasonably and free from distraction and noise if you don't concentrate it'll make it much tougher then it should be.
Know your guitar
Try to learn all you can about your guitar. See what each thing is named and be in a position to find it quickly. One of the best tactics to learn how to play the guitar is to know your guitar. Guitars aren't all of the same and every one sounds different, you'll find this out as your experience grows and with a little bit of luck your pleasure and appreciation of them does too.
Know your talent level
Be careful you do not start too high you don't wish to impede your self on the 1st day.
