It is just natural to say “hey here let me give you my business card just in case you need help on...” You have to give it at the end because you might appear to over eager to promote yourself when you do it at the start. This is unlike formal meetings since it is not planned, so you have to be a little bit subtle to be professional. It is a great tactic that actually gets you those extra phone calls and business opportunities.
Social Events.
Now, for most businesspeople social events are also the time for giving away business cards. The friends of your friends are quite a good opportunity for enlarging your array of business contacts since typically you move around in the same circles of causes and interests. So it is good to bring a packet of business cards as you go to parties, formal dinners and even sporting events. You never know, but that friend of your friend might just be the person that will give you success in business.
Business Events.
Of course, business events are the events that everyone expects to have business cards. So of course you must have lots of your own business cards to match. Conferences, Symposiums, Seminars and other such events are prime targets for business networking. However, do not go about distributing your business cards at the first few minutes. Take time and try to see who might be the best people you need to connect with. You might need better suppliers, distributors, clients etc. So focus on the people you might want first before randomly giving away your cards.
So those are the ideal situations where business cards can be given out. These events should help you not appear to be over eager in promoting yourself. You can subtly pass your color business cards in a professional manner in these times and get the best chances of getting that promising business opportunity.
