What kind of thing can you put on your page to instantly put you on the top of Google just because you have it on your page? Nothing. Would you believe though that there are marketers out there who would like to lead you to believe there are such factors. Nothing you can do on your page will move you right to the top, but there are some things that can affect your rankings, slightly.
I really wait until I am in the top 10 on Google before I start to play around with the factors on my page that may affect my ranking. I mean there are basic things that I always do when designing a site that help, but to really fine tune them I need to be in steep competition before I start really working on changing things on my sites to pass that site above me.
I feel that there are just a few little factors that you must incorporate into your body design to truly benefit the most from off page optimization which allows you to get closer to the top. The three factors are to put your keywords in the title tag, the meta description text, and the meta keyword tag. Then you want to sprinkle your keyword through the body text.
Now we do off page optimization. This is really the most important thing. You just simply keep building link after link until you are somewhere that you can find your site. Then one thing at a time you start testing on page factors. You can test different things like bolding some of your keywords in the body, or improving your keyword density and seeing what results it has.
Your goal is each time you hit a position you want to try to move up one position. The way you do that is by doing something better than the guy above you. It may just be more links or it may be adding a tag or some keywords to your body text. Work on off page optimization until you get to that position where you can start testing to move your site up.
