You can understand sophistication with a three-question test. Number one: How many competitors are in the market? Number two: What kind of claims are these competitors making? Number three: How long have competitors been making these claims to customers?

Measuring fundamental marketing information can be explained better by using an example created by Eugene Schwartz. This technique will form the basis of understanding for online marketing efforts. Imagine a weight loss supplement introduced in the early days of the weight loss marketing revolution. Back then, a straightforward claim such as "This Pill Will Make You Lose Weight" would bring about a positive result and create sales. As the market matured, people began to see similar claims in different weight loss supplements. Now that the market has attained higher levels of sophistication, the original claims cannot be depended upon to bring the same results. These days the claims need to be more daring and bolder, like "Lose Weight In Just Seven Days With This Pill!".

Eventually bigger and bolder isnt good enough and marketers reach a new level of sophistication where they must implement unique mechanisms to keep the product selling. They would be required to tweak the claim to read, Take this Pill, that Blocks Fat Absorption in the Intestines, and Loose Weight in Seven Days. Even the unique mechanism fails as the market moves into the final level of sophistication. This is the most important lesson when it comes to online marketing training.

The internet continues to grab an ever-growing share of the world's business - some experts estimate it will reach 50% by the year 2020. Marketing is the key ingredient that will help you get your share of this business. If you hope to win in this highly competitive marketplace, you will need to master new skills. Eugene Schwartz's ideas can show you how to get started, but in order to reach full mastery you will need to seek out even more advice and build your own wisdom.
